Dr. Rolf Claessen studied chemistry at the Universities of Tübingen and Würzburg and received his doctorate from the College of Nanoscience and Engineering at the State University of New York in 2002. During his doctorate, he focused on organic and organometallic synthesis, the development of copper CVD processes and the construction of corresponding reactors as well as the characterisation of the copper layers obtained using surface analysis (SEM, XPS, AES, RBS). After completing his studies, Rolf Claessen worked for a nanotechnology company, where he spent most of his time as product manager for the glass coatings division. He completed his training as a patent attorney in Cologne. In 2007, Rolf Claessen passed the patent attorney examination and since then has also been an authorised representative before the European Patent Office and the European Union Intellectual Property Office.
Rolf Claessen specialises in all aspects of intellectual property law. In particular, he represents domestic and foreign clients in matters of patent, trade mark, utility model and design law. He also advises on employee invention law and draws up strategies and contracts for joint developments and licences. His practice focuses on the registration and enforcement of trade marks and patents in the fields of chemistry, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, material sciences, nanotechnology and semiconductor manufacturing.
Dr. Claessen is involved on a voluntary basis in various projects, including Rotary. In 2014, he was honorary Executive Congress Director of the JCI World Congress. Since 2014 he has published the podcast IP Fridays and since October 2015 he has been running a YouTube channel under his name, which is now the most subscribed YouTube channel of a patent attorney. Rolf Claessen has written numerous articles in academic and non-academic journals and magazines. Rolf Claessen has been a partner at the firm since 2022.
Rolf Claessen was born in Cologne in 1972 and speaks fluent German and English. Rolf Claessen has three children and lives in Cologne. His hobbies include mountain hiking, sailing and programming.
