Wasilis Koukounis studied Mechanical Engineering and Sales Engineering and Product Management at the Ruhr University Bochum. He also completed a Master's degree in Intellectual Property Law at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf.
He gained technical work experience at an international investment foundry group and at a shipyard, both in the research and development department. In 2011, he began his training as a patent attorney at a patent and law firm and has been working in intellectual property law ever since. After completing his patent attorney examination, he worked as a freelance patent attorney and worked as an in-house patent attorney for a DAX conglomerate. There he assumed responsibility as a patent attorney for the group's open-cast mining, after-sales management and wind power plant divisions. He designed a new cross-divisional IP strategy for the group.
Wasilis Koukounis is a partner in the firm. He specialises in grant and procedural matters relating to technical property rights. He also specialises in employee invention, trademark and design law. His areas of expertise also include patent attorney opinions, licence agreement matters, conciliation negotiations, FTO analyses, advice on strategic IP orientation and patent portfolio management. Wasilis Koukounis specialises in computer-implemented inventions, automotive, sensor technology and mechanical engineering. He is also a monthly contributor to VDI nachrichten.
Wasilis Koukounis was born in Bochum in 1985 and now lives in Düsseldorf. He speaks German, English and Greek. In his free time, he does charitable work and enjoys cycling.
