MHPATENT Webinar: The CRISPR Cas patent files: Prime Editing and integrase-based variants
Prime Editing and integrase-based variants
In recent years, Prime Editing and its integrase-based successors such as PASSIGE, PASTE, and GeneWriter have emerged as powerful alternatives to traditional CRISPR-Cas9 technologies, enabling precise insertion of large DNA fragments into the genome without the need for double-strand breaks or donor templates. However, while these advancements hold great promise for gene therapy and biotechnology, they also raise intricate patent and licensing questions. This talk, delivered by Dr. Ulrich Storz, will shed light on the evolving patent landscape surrounding Prime Editing and integrase-based systems. Particular attention will be given to the technologies' mechanistic similarities, the strategic importance of pegRNA design, and the emerging disputes among key players such as Prime Medicine, Tome Biosciences, and Tessera. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the technical underpinnings of these genome editing tools and the complex web of intellectual property rights that may influence their freedom to operate.
The webinar will take place on Wednesday, 8th May 2025, at 3 pm (MEZ / CET) in English language. Once you register for this webinar, you agree to receive our newsletter.

Preparation course for the C- and D-part of the European qualifying examination
In 2025, our law firm will again be offering a preparation course for the C and D parts of the European Qualifying Examination (EQE exam), which will take place on Monday/Tuesday, 15/16 December 2025.
The course content is primarily focussed on suitable examination techniques and strategies for avoiding mistakes in order to be able to successfully tackle the C and D parts of the EQE exam with these skills. In our experience, well-prepared exam papers significantly increase the chances of success. We therefore want to provide participants with the necessary methodological knowledge in this course. In this respect, the course should be seen as a supplement to the participants' own preparation of the legal foundations of the EPC. Instead, participants will learn how to convert their technical knowledge of the EPC into as many points as possible to pass the C and D parts of the EQE examination. The course takes place in Düsseldorf at our premises at Kaistrasse 16A and is free of charge, the language of the course is German. The course speakers are Dr Torsten Exner, Dipl.-Ing. Andreas Gröschel and Prof. Dr Aloys Hüttermann.
Registration is now open (please state your full name and employer) at eqe@mhpatent.de.
